No. S. 517.-It is hereby notified that sealed tenders in triplicate, which should be clearly marked "Tender for Maintenance of Way and Structures in 1939," will be received at the Colonial Secretary's Office until Noon of Monday, the 9th day of January, 1939, on behalf of the Kowloon-Canton Railway (British Section).

Drawings may be seen and Specifications and full particulars obtained by applica- tion to the Railway Head Office, Kowloon, on the deposit of a fee of $25, with the Chief Accountant of the Railway, which will be refunded on the submission of a bona fide tender together with the return of the Specification intact. The deposit receipt. must be attached to the tender.

The successful tenderer will be required to sign a formal contract in the usual form of Government Contracts and to give security for sums varying from $50 to $200 in cash as specified under each item, to be deposited with the Accountant-General for the due and faithful performance of the terms of such contract.

The Government does not bind itself to accept the lowest or any tender.

HARBOUR NOTIFICATION.

No. 23 of 1938,

QUARANTINE INSPECTION OF VESSELS: WINTER ARRANGEMENTS FOR.

With reference to Harbour Notifications Nos. 11 and 15 of 1938, notice is hereby given that as from 1st December, 1938, medical inspection of vessels arriving from Hong Kong and Shanghai destined for Tientsin or Tangku will be carried out at Tangku. Should these vessels lighten outside Taku Bar all persons permitted on board must remain there until the completion of medical inspection at Tangku.

Vessels working cargo outside the Taku Bar will be required to produce a declara- tion signed by the Master and the ship's Doctor, if any, to the effect that no death or sickness has occurred on board during the voyage from the last port of call. Such declaration must be handed to the Port Health Officer or Customs Officer before working

cargo.

All persons disembarking outside Taku Bar will be required to pass medical inspection before landing at Tangku.
