An Ordinance to amend the Empire Preference Ordinance,
1932.
Be it enacted by the Governor of Hong Kong, with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof, as follows:
1. This Ordinance may be cited as the Empire Pre- Short title. ference Amendment Ordinance, 1938.

2. Section 2 of the Empire Preference Ordinance, 1932, Amendment as amended by the Empire Preference Amendment Ordinance, No. 32 of 1954, is further amended by the insertion, in the second line 1932, s. 2 as of the definition of "The British Empire" in the first Ordinance
amended by paragraph thereof, of the word "Burma," immediately after No. 31 of the word "India,".

Objects and Reasons.
As Burma has now been separated from India, the former country is no longer covered by the definition of "The British Empire" contained in section 2 of the principal Ordinance, as amended by the Empire Preference Amendment Ordinance, 1934.

Clause 2 of this Bill inserts the word "Burma,' mediately after the word "India" in that definition, in pursuance of instructions given by the Secretary of State for the Colonies in his circular despatch of 23rd December, 1937.
