Intended alterations in Aids to Navigation.

NOTICE is hereby given that on or about the 1st February next, the Lin Chiao Light will be discontinued. Simultaneously with the extinction of the Liu Chino Light the Drinkwater Point Gas-Light-vessel will be shifted 5 miles N. 85° W. from her present position, the Chi Yao Bank Buoy discontinued, and the Drinkwater Point Gas-Buoy will be replaced in its former position, i.e., 12 2 miles S. 87-4 W. from the Shaweishan Light. A Gas-buoy, painted Black, to be known as the Middle Island Gas-buoy, will be placed 1.5 miles S. 45° W. from the site of the Liu Chiao Lighthouse to mark the southern side of the channel, and the Middle Island unlighted Buoy will be discontinued.
The Quarantine Anchorage Upper Buoy will be replaced by a Gas-buoy, painted Red, moored in 30 feet at Low Water of Spring Tides, from which the Quarantine Beacon will bear N. 41° E. distant 1.1 miles; and an unlighted conical Bnoy, painted Red, moored in 30 feet at Low Water of Spring Tides, from which the Quarantine Beacon will bear N. 16 W., distant 17.4 miles, will replace the buoy now marking the lower limits of the Quarantine Auchorage. These buoys will then mark the northern side of the channel in addition to the Innits of the Quarantine Auchorage.
As alterations may take place in the river Led between now and the 1st February, the positions, given above, must be taken as approximate only.
All bearings given are Magnetie.

SANITARY DEPARTMENT.
No. 1030. Tenders will be received at the Colonial Secretary's Office until Noon of Saturday, the 22nd December, 1906, for the general surface scavenging of and the removal of household and trade refuse, animal manure and night-soil from certain villages and dis- tricts situate in New Kowloon and on the Island of Hongkong in accordance with the condi- tions of contract which may be seen at the Office of the Secretary to the Sanitary Board, Beaconsfield,
The contracts will be for a period of three years from the 1st January, 1907.
No tender will be considered unless the person tendering produces a deposit receipt from the Treasury (as a pledge of the bona fides of his tender) for a sum equal to 10 per cent. of the value of the security to be furnished by the contractor as stated below.
The successful tenderer will be required to sign a formal contract containing conditions to be prescribed by the Board and also to give security to the satisfaction of His Excellency the Governor in the following sums in respect of each contract, viz., Shaukiwan and Quarry Bay, $150, Aberdeen and Aplichau, $200, Stanley and Taitam, $100, and Kowloon City, etc.. $250. Failing compliance with the latter requirements the sum deposited with the tender will be forfeited.

The Government does not bind itself to accept the lowest or any tender.
