No. 597.-The Honourable Commander GEORGE FRANCIS HOLE, R.N. (Retired), resumed duty as Harbour Master and Director of Air Services on the 12th November, 1929.

No. 598.-His Excellency the Governor has been pleased to appoint Mr. JAMES HUNTER and Lieut.-Commander THOMAS CHARLES STIFF, R.N.R., to be Examiners for Masters and Mates, with effect from 21st November, 1929.

No. 599.-His Excellency the Governor has been pleased to appoint Mr. JOHN BARROW to act as his Private Secretary, with effect from 17th November, 1929.

No. 600.-His Excellency the Governor has been pleased to appoint Mr. WALTER SCHOFIELD to be Police Magistrate, Kowloon, with effect from 20th November, 1929.

HARBOUR DEPARTMENT.
No. 601.-It is hereby notified that Chinese Nationals will be permitted to sit al the Board of Trade Examinations for Master, 1st Mate, and Chief Engineer under the same conditions as laid down for British subjects.
Successful Chinese candidates will not however receive a certificate of Competency which can be granted only to British subjects but will receive in lieu thereof a letter signed by the Chief Examiner (The Harbour Master) certifying that the examination has been passed.
This letter will not entitle the holder to the rights conferred by a Certificate of Competency.
