4. The Colonial Secretary laid on the table the Report of the Finance Committee

(No. 12), dated the 19th September, 1929, and moved its adoption.

5. Distress for Kent Amendment Bill.--The Attorney General addressed the Council and moved the First reading of a Bill intituled "An Ordinance to amend further the Distress for Rent Ordinance, 1883."

6. Police Force Amendment Bill.-The Attorney General addressed the Council and moved the First reading of a Bill intituled "An Ordinance to amend the Police Force Ordinance, 1900.”

7. Maintenance Orders (Facilities for Enforcement) Amendment Bill.-The Attorney

On Council resuming the Attorney General reported that the Bill had passed through Committee without amendment and moved that it be read a third time.

8. Appropriation Bill for 1930.- The Hon. Director of Medical and Sanitary Ser- vices, the Hon. Harbour Master, the Hon. Attorney General, the Hon. Colonial Treasurer, the Hon. Colonial Secretary and His Excellency the Governor addressed the Council.

Council in Committee on the Bill.

Sir HENRY POLLOCK and Mr. W. E. L. SHENTON addressed the Council in Com- mittee on the item $996,342, for the Harbour Department, moving and seconding respectively an amendment to reduce the total vote by $70,000 provided for two new motor launches. Upon an undertaking being given that these items should be referred to the Harbour Board and subsequently to the Finance Committee, opposition was withdrawn.

Sir HENRY POLLOCK and Mr. J. P. BRAGA addressed the Council in Committee on the item $585,684, for the Prison Department. Upon an undertaking being given that no expenditure should be incurred for increasing the Printery without prior reference to the Legislative Council, opposition was withdrawn.
