COLONIAL SECRETARY'S DEPARTMENT.
No. S. 296.--It is hereby notified that sealed tenders in duplicate, which should be clearly marked "Tender for Quarries" will be received at this Office until Noon on Monday, the 3rd day of December, 1917, for the letting of the undermentioned Granite Quarries at Hongkong, Kowloon, and the New Territories, for one year from the 1st January, 1918.
Each tender must be accompanied by a receipt to the effect that the tenderer has deposited in the Colonial Treasury a sum of $50 as a pledge of the bona fides of his offer, which sum shall be forfeited to the Crown if the tenderer refuses to carry out his tender and comply with the conditions hereinafter contained, should the tender be accepted.
The Government does not bind itself to accept the highest or any tender.
Forms of tender can be obtained from the Director of Public Works.

CONDITIONS OF LETTING.
1. The areas to be let are shewn approximately on plans deposited in the Public Works Department.
2. Each party, whose tender may be accepted in writing for all or any of the lots, shall pay into the Colonial Treasury, on or before the 1st January, 1918, a sum equiva- lent to rent of such lots or lot from 1st January to 31st March, 1918, as security for the proper fulfilment of these conditions. He shall then be entitled to, and shall be granted a permit to quarry granite from the lots or lot for a period extending from 1st January to 31st December, 1918, at the rentals or rental specified in his tender, payable quarterly on or before the 1st day of January, 1918, and afterwards on the 1st day of April, July, and October, 1918, respectively; and on production of the Treasury receipt for such, a permit to quarry will be issued by the Director of Public Works.
