NOTICES TO MARINERS.

THE following telegram having been received from the Secretary of State for the Colonies is hereby published:

"Seamen in ships arriving in U.S.A. must have passports or otherwise docu- ments showing identity and nationality. Discharge book would be sufficient provided that photograph affixed authenticated by Superinten- dent of Mercantile Marine, British Consul or Colonial Officers. Ship- owners, seamen unions, masters of ships should be informed. Photograph to be fixed to discharge book with consent of master and seaman, cost to be met by master or agent of ship no fee to be charged seamen. In case of seaman not in possession discharge hook you can issue documents on lines of emergency certificates of British nationality.'

North Coast of Hokkaido, Fog Signal to be Established.

NOTICE is hereby given that a fog signal will be established in the premises of Notoro Misaki Lighthouse, province of Kitami, Hokkaido. It will, during thick or foggy weather, give blasts of 3 seconds' duration separated by silent intervals of 40 seconds, on and after the 1st of November, 1917, thus:-

40 sees.

No fog signal will be blast during the months of January and February every year.
