The opportunity is also taken to repeal certain pro- visions in the Liquors Consolidation Ordinance, 1911, requiring the publication in Chinese of all regulations relating to dealers licences, Chinese restaurant licences and brewery licences. These provisions are considered
unnecessary.

Power of
An Ordinance to consolidate and amend the law relating to the deportation of undesirable
persons.
Be it enacted by the Governor of Hongkong, with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof, as follows:-
1. This Ordinance may be cited as the Deportati Ordinance, 1917.
2. In this Ordinanec :-
"
(4) “British subject includes a natural born British subject and a person naturalised under an Imperial Act or under an Ordinance of the Colony:
(b) Legal proceeding includes every civil and criminal proceeding before any court, every procceding before any other tribunal established by law, and every arbitration.
3.-(1.) The Governor in Council may at any time summarily issue a deportation order againsi :--
() any person who has been conviered of an offence
under section 9 of this Ordinance; or
(b) any person who has been convicted in the Colony of any offence, other than an offene under section 9 of this Ordinance, and who in the opinion of the Governor in Council is not a British subject; or
(e) any person who has been imprisoned in this Colony in pursuance of a sentence imposed by His Majesty's Supreme Court for China.
(2.) During the continuance of any proclamation issued under the Peace Preservation Ordinance, 1886, the Gover- nor in Council may at any time summarily issue a deporta- tion order against any person who in the opinion of the Governor in Conueil is not a natural born British subject if in the opinion of the Governor in Council it is desirable for the public safety or in the interests of the peace or good order of the Colony that such person should be deported.
(3.) A deportation order issued under this section may be in Form No. 7 in the Schedule hereto.
(4.) The procedure prescribed in section + of this Ordinance shall not apply to deportation orders made under the provisions of this section and such orders may be made upon such information or summary enquiry as the Gover- nor in Council may think sufficient.
4.-(1.) Subject to the provisions of sub-section (14) of deportation this section, the Governor in Comcil may at any time generally.
issue a deportation order against any person whatsoever if upon enquiry in the manner prescribed in this section the Governor in Council is of opinion that such person is liabl to deportation and should be deported.
(2.) No steps or proceedings whatsoever other than those expressly specified in this section shall be necessary for the making of any deportation order under this section.
