So soon as possible the channel will be re-sounded, and in the meantime the area concerned should be navigated with caution.

POSITION OF WRECK OF S.S. SILAOHSING.

Wreck-Marking Buoys to be Established; Caution for Night Navigation.

REFERRING to Special Notice to Mariners No. 484, notice is hereby given that the position of the wreck of the S.S. Shaohsing has been verified, and that from the wreck the Tungsha Light-vessel bears N. 42° W., magnetic, distant 23 miles.

The wreck, which lies in the fairway of the South Channel Entrance to the Yangtze River with her head pointing N.E. by N. 4° N., is submerged with the exception of her masts and funnel.

Immediate steps are being taken to establish two green wreck-marking Buoys, each exhibiting an occulting white light every 8 seconds, thus :--

One of these Buoys will be moored at a distance of 63 cables N. 48° W., magnetic, from the wreck and the other will be moored at a distance of 63 cables S. 48° E., magnetic, from the wreck. These Buoys will be approximately in line with the southern extremity of the wreck.

When these Buoys have been placed in position the Revenue Steamer, which has been acting as a temporary wreck-marking vessel, will be withdrawn.

Caution.

Vessels are urged not to navigate this locality at night-time without a pilot.
