CHIMATAO PROMONTORY--APPROACH TO LUNGKOW.

Intended Alteration in Character of Chimatao Light.

NOTICE is hereby given that on or about the 7th April, 1917, the character of Chimatao Light, Chimatao Promontory, Gulf of Pechili, will be changed to a white acetylene light occnlting every 5 seconds, thus:

0.5 second. 45 seconds.

This alteration will considerably increase the candle-power of the light and it should then be visible in clear weather for a distance of 20 nautical miles. Other characteristics of this light will remain unchanged.

NEWCHWANG DISTRICT.

Gulf of Liaotung-Approach to the Liao River.

Newchwang Light-vessel to be Replaced by a New Light-vessel ; Characteristics of Light and Fog Signal to be Changed.

NOTICE is hereby given that on or about the 10th May, 1917, the Newchwang Light- vessel, moored off the entrance to the Liao River, Gulf of Liaotung, will be permanently replaced by a new Light-vessel.

The new Light-vessel is built of steel, is 92 feet in length and 26 feet in beam, and will be painted red, with the name Newchwang on her sides in white letters.

The light, which will be exhibited from a lantern surmounting a steel tower, will be Dioptric, Double Flashing, of the Fourth Order, showing two white flashes in quick succession every 10 seconds. The power of the flash will be about 18,000 candles.

The light will be elevated 35 feet above the sea and should be visible in clear weather at a distance of 11 nautical miles.

In foggy or thick weather an automatic acetylene fog gun will be operated, giving one report every 30 seconds.

If the Light-vessel be driven from her proper station, the usual light will not be shown, but a fixed red light will be exhibited at each end of the vessel during the night and a red flag hoisted during the day.
