No. S. 49.—It is hereby notified that the following Letting of the right to quarry on Crown Land will be held by Public Auction at the District Office, Hongkong, at 2.30 p.m., on Monday, the 26th day of March, 1917.
The Letting will be for the term of one year from the 1st day of April, 1917, for Quarrying Granite subject to the Special Conditions hereunder specified.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS.
1. The area to be quarried is shown on a plan deposited in the District Land Office, Hongkong.
2. The highest bidder shall immediately after the sale deposit in the District Land Office, Hongkong, a sum equivalent to three months' rent of such Lot as security for the rent and the fulfilment of these conditions. He shall then be entitled to and shall execute, on demand, a Lease from the Crown of the piece of ground comprised in such Lot for one year from the 1st day of April, 1917, at the rental at which the same was purchased, and payable monthly in advance on the 1st day of each month: such Lease being in the printed form deposited in the District Land Office, Hongkong.
3. The Government will permit if practicable the Lessee to erect and maintain such temporary piers or jetties, as may in the opinion of the Director of Public Works, be rea- sonably necessary for the purpose of shipping stone cut in the leased quarries into junks or boats; the sites and dimensions of such temporary piers or jetties shall be subject in all respects to the approval of the Director of Public Works, who may at any time direct the removal of any such temporary pier or jetty to any other place; the expense of such removal to be borne by the Lessee.
4. Should the Lessee fail to comply with these conditions the sum deposited by him shall be forfeited to the Government, and he shall be liable to make good any loss or damage which the Government may incur through his failure to comply with such condi- tions.

SANITARY DEPARTMENT.
No. S. 50. It is hereby notified that sealed tenders in duplicate, which should be clearly marked Tenders for Refuse Barge" and accompanied by the necessary plans and specifications, will be received at the Colonial Secretary's Office until Noon of Thursday, the 22nd March, 1917, for the construction of a wood steam Refuse Barge for the Sanitary Department. Capacity of hold and hatchway not less than 8,210 cubic feet. Single screw compound surface condensing engines not less than 11 inches and 22 inches by 15 inches stroke, with suitable boiler to Board of Trade requirements for a working pressure of 125lb. per sq. inch. Accommodation for 10 men forward and 4 men aft to be provided. The tender to include full equipment fit and ready for use, and to state a time in which the vessel will be completed.
The Government does not bind itself to accept the lowest or any tender.
A rough draft specification and fuller particulars may be obtained from the Govern ment Marine Surveyor.
