No. 388. His Excellency the Governor has been pleased to appoint Dr. WILFRIÐ WILLIAM PEARSE to act, during the absence on leave of Mr. ADAM GIBSON or until further notice, as Secretary to the Committee to fix from time to time the maximum price for which any article of food may be sold by retail in the Colony.

No. 389. It is hereby notified that His Excellency the Governor has been pleased to appoint Mr. ERIC WILLIAM HAMILTON to be a Magistrate, under the provisions of Section 7 of the Magistrates Ordinance, 1890, Ordinance No. 3 of 1890, with effect from the 16th April, 1917.
His Excellency the Governor has further been pleased to authorise Mr. Eric WILLIAM HAMILTON, under the provisions of Section 58 of the New Territories Regulation Ordinance, 1910, Ordinance No. 34 of 1910, to hold a Small Debts Court in the New Territories at the following places :-
The charge rooms of the Police Stations at Tsün Wan, Tai 0, Tung Chung,
Cheung Chau, and Yeung Shu Wan,
with effect from the same date.

COLONIAL SECRETARY'S DEPARTMENT,
No. 390.-Government Notification No. 252 of the 30th May, 1917, declaring the channel North of Ma Wan Island to be closed, is hereby rescinded.
No. 391.--The following regulations with regard to persons entering the Zone of the Chinese Eastern Railway are published for general information:
TRANSLATION.
With the consent of the Governments concerned, foreign subjects when enter- ing the Zone of the Chinese Eastern Railway must be provided with national passports, viséed by a Russian Consulate, with photograph attached and bearing an annotation whether the holder is a subject of a given state by birth or by naturalisation. The examination of the pass- ports will take place at Kouanchentsy station, where the passports have to be produced. The present regulations are established for the whole duration of the war and do not concern persons of Chinese and Japanese nationality.
