On the 30th at 7.45 a.-Orders issued to hoist the Black Cone point upwards with the Drum. At 11.20 a.- "The barometer has fallen over Northern and Central China, and risen rapidly over the Formosa Channel. At Swatow and Hongkong the rise is compara- tively slow. The typhoon entered the Coast during the night between Amoy and Swatow. This morning it is situated to the North of Swatow. It appears to be moving towards W.N.W. The highest pressure is over S. Japan, where pressure is about 0.1 inch in excess of the normal. Over the S. and S.E. coasts of China it is still in defect by from 0.3 to 0.5 inch. Strong W. and S.W. winds to gales are indicated over the N. part of the China Sea." Forecast:- "W. to S.W. winds, fresh to strong; squally, showery." At 12.30 p.-Signal

Except over N. China and Japan, the barometer has risen generally, particularly over Formosa and the S. and S.E coasts of China. The typhoon has filled up rapidly during the past 24 hours. It is shown this morning as an elongated depression lying between the S. Coast of China and the Yangtze. Pressure is highest over Japan. It exceeds the normal by about 0.1 inch over this area and the Loochoos, and is in defect a like amount along the China Coast. Pressure is probably high, also, to the N.W. of China." Forecast:-"S.E. winds, light to moderate; showery.'
