On the 23rd at 11.25 a.-“ The barometer has risen moderately over N.E. Japan, and fallen slightly over the Loochoos, Formosa and Luzon. Pressure is high over N.E. Japan, and also over Central China. It appears to be somewhat low over the Pacific, and a depres- sion may be forming over this area, probably to the E. or N.E. of Luzon. Pressure is now about 0.05 inch in defect of the normal over Luzon, and a like amount in excess, over S. China, Formosa and the Loochoos. There is a slight gradient for N.W. winds over the N. part of the China Sea." Forecast :- Light W. or variable winds; fine."

On the 24th at 11.30 a. "The barometer has fallen moderately to slightly over Japan, the Loochoos and Formosa. Pressure is lowest, apparently, over the Pacific to the N.E. of Luzon. It is highest over N.E. Japan in the North, and over the S. part of the China Sea in the South. It is normal over Formosa and the Loochoos, slightly in defect over Luzon, and a little above the average point on the China Coast. Gradients continue slight, chiefly for N.E. and E. winds along the China Coast and over the N. part of the China Sea." Forecast --- N.E. winds, light to moderate; fair.”

On the 25th at 11.40 a. "The barometer has fallen at all stations, rapidly over E. Japan and moderately to slightly elsewhere. The fall in Japan is caused by a depression which appears to be moving to the N.E. off the E. coast. The other stations are under the influence of a depression in the Pacific. It is probably lying at some distance to the South- ward of the Loochoos. Över Luzon and the Loochoos pressure is now nearly 0.1 inch below the normal. The highest pressure appears to be over Central China." Forecast :-"N.E. or variable winds, light to moderate; fine as a whole, but probably some showers."

On the 26th at 11.25 a. "The barometer has risen considerably over E. Japan, and fallen elsewhere, particularly over the Loochoos. The depression in the Pacific is probably a typhoon. It is still situated to the South of the Loochoos, and apparently it has a slow motion towards N.W. or N.N.W. Pressure is highest and normal over N. Japan. defect 0.2 inch and upwards over the Loochoos, and about 0.1 inch along the China Coast and over the Philippines." Forecast:-"N.W. to W. winds, light; probably some thunder showers.'

On the 28th at 11.30 a. "The barometer has risen moderately over N. China and Japan, and fallen considerably over Meiaco Sima and Formosa. The typhoon is now situated to the S.S.E. of Meiaco Sima. It appears to be moving slowly Westwards, and threatens to pass over Formosa. The area of high pressure is still central to the N.E. of Japan, pressure exceeding the normal at Nemuro by about 0.4 inch. At Meiaco Sima the mercury is over half an inch below its average height. Bad weather is expected to prevail in the Formosa Channel, and strong E. and N.E. winds and gales over the E. coast of China as far North as Shanghai. Over the N. part of the China Sea, N.W. to S.W. winds, moderate to strong breezes, will probably prevail." Forecast:--"N.W. winds, moderate or fresh, fair."
