as may be, by advertisement in the Gazette, specify those numbers and appoint a day, not being earlier than fifteen days from the day of the drawing and not being later than the day ou which the then current half-year's interest is payable, on which the principal moneys repre- sented by the bonds so distinguished will be repaid.
(7.) On the day so appointed there shall be paid to the holders of the bonds drawn for redemption, at the head office of the Hong- keng and Shanghai Banking Corporation, the principal moneys repesented by those bonds, with all interest payable thereon up to that day.
(8.) From and after the day appointed for the repayment of any bond all interest on the principal moneys represented thereby shall cense and determine, whether payment of the principal shall have been demanded or not.
3. Section 7 of the War Loan Ordinanec, 1916, is amended by the substitution of the words and figures 31st day of October" for the words and figures 30th day of November" in the first and second lines thereof.

An Ordinance to provide for a temporary in- crease in the rates for the special purpose of increasing the contributions of the Colony to His Majesty's Government towards the ex- penses of the present war.

BE it enacted by the Governor of Hongkong, with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof, as follows:--
1. This Ordinance may be cited as the Rating (Special War Rate) Ordinance, 1917, and shall be read and cou- strued as one with the Rating Ordinance, 1901, hereinafter called the principal Ordinance, and with the Rating Amendment Ordinance, 1917.
2.-(1.) In addition to the rates payable under the principal Ordinance, there shall be payable on the valuation of every tenement in the places specified in the schedule hereto a special war rate of seven per centum per annum.
