No. 223. His Excellency the Governor has, under instructions from the Secretary of State for the Colonies, been pleased to appoint Mr. ERNEST ROADLEY DOVEY to be Analyst, Medical Department, with effect from the 1st January, 1917.

No. 224. His Excellency the Governor has been pleased to appoint Mr. THOMAS WILLIAM AINSWORTH to act as Secretary to the Sanitary Board, with effect from the 19th instant and until further notice.

Note 2 to Notification No. 207, published in the Gazette of the 11th May, 1917, should read as follows:

COLONIAL SECRETARY'S DEPARTMENT.

No. 226.—It is hereby notified for general information that by a proclamation issued on the 10th May, 1917, the importation of the following articles into the United Kingdom was prohibited :

Gum copal. Gum kauri.

Manufactures of rubber.

Wild animals.

The proclamation will be gazetted when it is received.

Notification No. 169, published in the Gazette of the 27th April, 1917, contains references to the various proclamations which have been issued prohibiting importation into the United Kingdom.

No. 227. The following correspondence is published, by command. Any enqui- ries in connection with it should be addressed to the Director of Public Works, from whom forms of application may be obtained.

SIR,I have the honour to inform you that the Minister of Munitions has had under consideration the procedure which should be adopted in the case of orders from Colonies not possessing Responsible Government and Protectorates for the supply from the United Kingdom of machinery and other materials (such as steel, tin-plates, copper wire, etc.) for which there is a demand for war purposes.
