RETURN PASSAGES TO PLACES ABROAD FOR OFFICERS ON RETIREMENT,
DEMOBILIZATION OR TERMINATION OF CONTRACT,
Cases have arisen in which officers entitled under A.C.I. 902 of 1916 to return passage at the public expense to the place whence they came have made their own arrange- ments and then applied to the War Office for the issue of a money allowance in lieu. It is notified for general information that applications for return passage must be made in writing to the Secretary, War Office, and that officers making private arrangements do so at their own risk, and are liable to forfeit right to claim any refund of amount of

INSTRUCTIONS AS TO RETURN PASSAGES TO PLACES ABROAD FOR DISCHARGED SOLDIERS.
:
1. When a warrant officer, non-commissioned officer, or man who proceeded from abroad after the declaration of war and enlisted in the British Army, is being discharged and is desirous of returning to the place whence he came, application should be made by his commanding officer to the officer in charge of records who will apply to the War Office for return passage on Army Form A 19, when necessary, giving full particulars of destination, and stating whether the applicant is prepared to embark by the first avail- able opportunity. Application for passage should not be made too long in advance.
2. The officer in charge of records should, as far as possible, satisfy himself that the applicant is returning to the place whence he came before enlistment:
3. The right to such passage must be exercised within six months of the date of discharge.
4. Application for passage after discharge should be made direct to the officer in charge of records.
5. These instructions will also apply to army reservists who rejoined the colours from abroad ou mobilization.
