The rainfall for the month of January at the Botanical Gardens was 0ins 46 on 4 days, at the Matilda Hospital, Mount Kellett, it was 0ins. 44 on 4 days, and at the Police Station, Taipo, it was 0ins. 61 on 4 days.

The mean barometric pressure for the month of January was the highest on record. The maximum reading, 30-494 on the 10th, was the highest on record since 1903, January 6, when it was 30 509.

The mean temperature was the lowest on record since 1900. The minimum tem- perature, 388 on the 9th, was the lowest on record since 1900, January 9, when it was 37°5. On 1893 January 18 it was 32°0.

The mean vapour tension, or absolute humidity, was the lowest on record, and the mean relative humidity was equal to the lowest on record.

The mean wind velocity was the same as the lowest on record up to 1914. In January, 1915, it was 109 m.p.h., and in January, 1916, it was 10'6 m.p.h.
