An Ordinance to make provision in connection with the present war with respect to Bills of Exchange payable outside the Colony.
BE it enacted by the Governor of Hongkong, with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof, as follows:-

3. Where, in any action or proceeding upon a bill of Provision as exchange payable outside the Colony, it is shown to the to bills of exchange court that the bill has been lost and that the loss can rea-
lost owing sonably be presumed to be due to circumstances attributable to war. directly or indirectly to the present war, the court may 4 & 5 Geo. allow proof of the bill to be given by means of a copy 5, c. 82, s. 2. thereof certified by a notary public, or by means of such other evidence as the court may think reasonable under the circumstances: Provided that such indemnity be given against the claims of other persons as the court may require.

4. The Governor in Council may at any time determine Duration. the operation of this Ordinance, or provide that this Ordi- nance shall have effect subject to such limitations as may 5, c. 82, s. 3. be contained in the Order; but, subject to the operation of any such Order in Council, this Ordinance shall have effect during the continuance of the present war and for a period of six months thereafter.
Objects and Reasons.
The object of this Bill is to introduce here the provisi- sions of the Bills of Exchange Act, 1914, 4 & 5 Geo. 5, c. 82.
