The Astronomical positions are only approximate unless seconds are given. The bearings are given both True and Magnetic, and those relating to lights are from senward. The visibility of lights is that in clear weather. Fog signals are sounded only in thick or foggy weather. The heights given are heights of focal plane abore high water.
AUSTRALIA-SOUTH COAST.
Backstairs Passage.
Yatala Shoal-Light Bouy to be established.
MARINERS and others are hereby notified that the spherical buoy moored on the north-western side of Yatala Shoal will be replaced by a lighted buoy showing a white flashing light, on or about 1st December, 1916.
Position.--On the north-western side of Yatala Shoal 25° (N. 20° E. Magnetic), distant 4 miles from Cape St. Alban, in the position occupied by the existing red and white horizontally-striped spherical buoy surmounted by a half globe, which it replaces. Latitude 35° 45' S.; Longitude 138° 10' E.
Description.--A cylindrical light buoy with framework superstructure painted. in red and white horizontal bands, exhibiting a flashing white light every six seconds thus:-
