On the 18th at 11.30 a. The barometer has fallen over E Japan owing to a depression which having crossed the Sea of Japan yesterday, is now moving into the Pacific to the E of Hokkaido. The typhoon appears to have approached or entered Central Luzon where a further sharp fall of the barometer has occurred. It is probably moving towards WNW. The high pressure area remains over Central China, and pressure has increased over the E coast. Strong NE winds to gales may be expected in the Formosa Channel, and the NE part of the China Sea. Forecast: Fresh NE winds; showery, squally."

On the 19th at 12.5 p.-The barometer has risen in Manila, and fallen over China and Formosa. The typhoon appears to be situated to the NW of Luzon. It is probably moving towards NW. Pressure is highest over S Japan. It remains low to the N of Japan. Strong NE winds to gales are indicated in the Formosa Channel, and the N part of the China Sea. Forecast:- "N winds, moderate; fair.” At 5.30 p.--Orders issued to hoist the Red Cone point downwards and Drum.

On the 20th at 11.5 a.-Orders issued to hoist the Black Cone point downwards and Drum. At 11.55 a.---- The barometer has fallen over China and W Japan, and risen over NE Japan and Luzon. The typhoon appears to be situated about 250 miles to the SSE of Hongkong, and to be moving WNW. Pressure is highest to the S of Japan, and over N China. Bad weather is indicated in the China Sea. Forecast:-"NE winds freshening, possibly to a gale; weather becoming squally with rain.”

On the 21st at 11.20 a.-The barometer has fallen considerably along the S coast of China, and also in Japan. The typhoon appears to be situated about 150 miles to the SE of Hongkong, and to be moving slowly Northwards. Bad weather may be expected along the coast between Hongkong and Foochow. Forecast:-"N to NW winds, strong to a gale; squally, showery. Owing to the interruption of the cable the Gap Rock observations are not available. At noon, orders issued to fire the gun. At 4.30 p. Black Drum hoisted. The typhoon appears to be near the coast about 100 miles E of Hongkong and probably recurving to the NE.

The typhoon is probably near Swatow and progressing slowly towards NE. is relatively high over N China. Bad weather may be expected and fresh W and SW winds over the N part of the China Sea. winds; fair." At 5 p. The typhoon has moved NE along the centre now being on land near Amoy.

On the 23rd at 11.50 a.--The barometer has risen generally, except at Meiaco Sima. The typhoon is nearly filled up. It appears to exist as a slight depression to the NE of Formosa. High pressure lies over N China and the Sea of Japan. The wind will probably freshen from NE in the Formosa Channel, and the N part of the China Sea. "NE winds, freshening; fair."

Forecast :-

On the 24th at 11.30 a.- The barometer has fallen slightly over the Loochoos owing to the depression, which having moved towards ENE since yesterday, is now situated to the E of the group. Pressure has increased over China and Japan, while a slight decrease has occurred in the S Philippines. Pressure is high over N China and the Sea of Japan, and highest over the E part of the latter area. It is relatively low over the China Sea. Gra- dients are steep over S China, and strong NE winds are expected to continue in the For- mosa Channel and the N part of the China Sea. Forecast:-"NE winds, strong to a moderate gale; squally, showery."

On the 26th at 11.50 a.---The barometer has fallen generally, particularly over N China, Japan and Luzon. The fall in Luzon is due to a tpyhoon, which appears to be approaching Central Luzon and to be moving NW In China it is caused by a depression which is apparently moving Eastwards to the N of the Yangtze. Pressure is highest over Central Japan. Moderate SE winds are indicated in the Formosa Channel and along the Northern shores of the China Sea. Forecast:- "Moderate SE winds; showery to fair.”

On the 27th at 12.50 p.-The barometer has risen in the Philippines and fallen over China and Formosa. The Northern depression has passed from the continent to the Yellow Sea moving Eastwards. The depression in the South may have passed into the China Sea to the W of Luzon, it appears to be feeble. Variable winds are indicated in the Formosa Channel and the N part of the China Sea. Forecast:- "Moderate S or variable winds; fair to showery."
