Nature of Measures.
Hongkong declared an infected port. Importation of the following articles from Hongkong or transshipped at this port is temporarily prohibited :—(1) wearing apparel, old and worn clothes, household effects for daily use, and used bedding, unless these goods are transported as personal luggage or in consequence of removal. (2) rags. (Re- fuse of new goods coming direct from the weaving-mills, from workshops where apparel is made or from bleaching- establishments, artificial wool, and cuttings of new paper, are not considered as rags.)
Quarantine up to 21 days according to the state of health on board the ships but subject to exemption on production of certificates legalised by the Netherlands Consul- General at Hongkong.

be clearly marked "Tender for Repairs to No. 2 Fire Float", will be received at the Colonial Secretary's Office until Noon of Friday, the 8th day of October, 1915.

SANITARY DEPARTMENT,
No. S. 213. It is hereby notified that scaled tenders in duplicate, which should be clearly marked "Tender for the Scavenging and Conservancy Contract, Stanley and Tytam", will be received at the Colonial Secretary's Office until Noon of Tuesday, the 12th day of October, 1915, for the general surface scavenging of and the removal of household and trade refuse, animal manure and nightsoil from the villages of Stanley and Tytam in accordance with the conditions of contract, copy of which may be obtained at the Office of the Secretary to the Sanitary Board.
The contract will be for a period of three years from the 1st January, 1916.
No tender will be considered unless the person tendering produces a deposit receipt from the Treasury (as a pledge of the bona fides of his tender) for a sum equal to 10 per cent. of the value of the security to be furnished by the contractor as stated below.
The successful tenderer will be required to sign a formal contract containing condi- tions to be prescribed by the Board and also to give security by depositing a sum of $100 in the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation in the name of the Colonial Treasurer. Failing compliance with the latter requirements the sum deposited with the tender will be forfeited.
