Dredgers will exhibit the Symbols specified in Harbour Notification No. 5 of 1909, to indicate their position relative to the centre of the channel, i.e.-

when in the Centre of the channel-A Black Diamond;

when to the North of Centre-A Black Ball;

when to the South of Centre-Two Black Balls in a perpendicular line.

Between sunset and sunrise the dredgers do not operate; they will then exhibit the usual anchor lights, in accordance with the international "Regulations for preventing colli- sions at sea."

TRUE BEARINGS.

MASTERS of Vessels, Pilots, and others are hereby informed that in future all Bearings given, in Notices to Mariners" will be given both True and Magnetic. The Admiralty have prepared and are issuing Charts with a Special Compass to facilitate the use of True Charts, thereby introducing gradually the use of True Bearings

The Compass consists of two graduated circles clearly separated from each other. The outer circle is a True Compass, graduated from 0° (True North) to 360°, measured clockwise.

The inner circle is a Magnetic Compass, graduated in points and in degrees from 0° to 90°, as heretofore.

This cancels Notice to Mariners No. 4 of 1913.

MASTERS of Vessels and others are hereby cautioned against anchoring on or near the line of the telegraph cable between the bell buoy and Kingscote.

The cable passes close to the bell buoy, thence in an approximately straight line about N. 74° W. mag., 291° true, to the green perch buoy, and lands about 100 yds. north of the jetty.

Should a vessel anchor near the cable a square blue flag will be shown from the tele- graph station at Kingscote, signifying that her position must be shifted immediately.

This affects Admiralty Charts Nos. 2389A and 3641.
