hereby given that dam and crib work have been started on the Shanghai side of the river opposite BLACK POINT, and navigators are instructed :--

1. To go slow when passing fascine mattresses being towed or sunk, especially at

high water.

2. Not to use the inner so-called "Flour Mill Channel near the west bank of the river below "Point," hitherto used by smaller craft, as the works now in progress will gradually close this channel.

NORTH CHANNEL ENTRANCE TO THE YANGTZE.

Reported shoal searched for but not found.

REFERRING to Special Notice to Mariners No. 387, notice is hereby given that an examination has been made of the neighbourhood of the 3-fathom patch in the North Channel Entrance to the Yangtze, 5.7 miles, S. 69° W. (magnetic), from Shaweishan Light- house, and shown on British Admiralty Chart No. 1,602, and that the least water found was 18 feet at low water of extraordinary spring tides.
