On Council resuming, the Attorney General reported that the Bill had passed through Committee with an immaterial amendment, and moved that it be read a third time.

10. Betting Duty Amendment Bill.-The Attorney General moved the Second reading of a Bill intituled "An Ordinance to amend the Betting Duty Ordinance, 1931, as amended by the Betting Duty Amendment Ordinance, 1940."

The Honourable Mr. THOMAS ERNEST PEARCE moved the following amendment:- That after the words "October, 1941" in line 2 of Clause 4, there should
be inserted the words :-
"and shall continue in force until the war, which began on the
3rd September, 1939, is terminated, and no longer, unless other- wise provided by Ordinance."
The Honourable Mr. JOHN JOHNSTONE PATERSON Seconded.
The Attorney General addressed the Committee.
The Honourable Mr. THOMAS ERNEST PEARCE addressed the Committee and
withdrew the amendment.
On Council resuming, the Attorney General reported that the Bill had passed through Committee without amendment, and moved that it be read a third time.
