Construction steel whether fabricated or not for inclusion in structure of a building.

Notice.

With reference to Government Notification 588 regard- ing the importation of semi-manufactured iron and steel, attention is invited to the following points-

1. A licence for importation of iron or steel will be known as the Hong Kong Import Supply Licence and sample forms may be obtained at the office of the Controller of Trade in the Post Office Building. Applications for the import of iron and steel should be made on these forms only.

2. No such import licence will be either approved by the Hong Kong Government or, as the case may be, referred to the Secretary of State for approval except for MATERIAL URGENTLY REQUIRED FOR PURPOSES ESSENTIAL TO THE WAR EFFORT. This will only be considered to cover Service and Defence requirements and requirements for the maintenance of public utilities and communications and of trade of value to the War Effort.

3. It is important that the particulars asked for on the licence should be accurately filled in, particularly the name of the importer, agent or supplier, if in the United Kingdom or the United States of America, together with a statement of the purposes for which the material is required.

4. Subject to the conditions in paragraph 2, applications to import from India, Australia, Canada or any other source outside the United Kingdom or the United States of America will be decided by the Hong Kong Government.

5. Where material is urgently required for suitable purposes and cannot be obtained from any of the sources in the preceding paragraph, applications to import from the United Kingdom or United States of America will be referred to the Secretary of State, after provisional approval has been given by the Hong Kong Government.
