No. 139.-His Excellency the Officer Administering the Government has been pleased to approve that Lieutenant EDWARD WILLIAM STOUT be allowed to resign his commission in the Hong Kong Volunteer Defence Corps, with effect from 28th February, 1941.

No. 140.-His Excellency the Officer Administering the Government has been pleased to approve the following appointment in the Hong Kong Volunteer Defence Corps, with effect from 23rd January, 1941:-

Mr. CUTHBERT JAMES NORMAN to be Lieutenant of an Auxiliary Unit.

No. 141.-It is hereby notified for general information that Gazette Notification No. 74 of 1941 published in the Gazette on 17th January, 1941, is amended by the deletion in the last line of the penultimate paragraph thereof of the dates "1st July" and "11th November".

The 1st July and 11th November, 1941, are prescribed as general holidays by section 3 of the Holidays Ordinance, No. 5 of 1912, and the effect of this amendment is that the Magistrates will receive these two general holidays in 1941 in addition to those notified on the 17th January, 1941.

No. 142. It is hereby notified that, complaints having been received in previous years regarding the effects of the flowering privet, the Botanical and Forestry Department is prepared to prune down privet plants on Crown land adjoining private residences, and also on private land if requested by the occupiers of such land.

All requisitions for pruning should be addressed to the Superintendent, Botanical and Forestry Department.
