34. No searchlight shall, without the permission of the Harbour Master, be used either within the Colony or the waters of the Colony except by persons in the employment of the Government or by His Majesty's naval, military or air forces.

(VIII). DRUMS, GONGS AND FIREWORKS.

35. No person shall, on board any junk or other Chinese vessel or boat without a permit from the Harbour Master, beat any drum or gong, or discharge, kindle, or let off any firework, or attempt to do so in the waters of the Colony between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., under a penalty not exceeding fifty dollars, or imprisonment for any term not exceeding six weeks.

(IX). NAKED AND PORTABLE Lights.

36. No naked or portable light shall be used by any and portable person on board any ship or other vessel in the waters of the Colony for any purpose, on deck or below, except electric light, or candles, or oil lamps burning animal, vegetable, or such other oil as will not give off an inflammable vapour at a temperature of less than 120 degrees Fahrenheit when tested in the manner set forth in the Schedules to the Case Oil, and Bulk Oil, Rules, made under section 5 of the Dangerous Goods Ordinance, 1873, (No. 1 of 1873). And any person who is responsible for or is a party to a breach of this regulation shall be liable to a fine not exceeding one hundred dollars.

Penalties

(X).-EMISSION OF SMOKE.

37.-(1) Smoke in such quantity as to be a nuisance shall not be sent forth or emitted from the funnel of any steamship in any port of the Colony.

(2) For the purposes of this regulation the expression. "smoke" shall include soot, ash, grit and gritty particles.

(3) Every person who is responsible for or is a party to a breach of this regulation and the master of the steam- ship on which a breach of this regulation has been committed shall be liable to a fine not exceeding one hundred dollars.

(4) The court or magistrate hearing an information or complaint against a person for breach of this regulation shall not convict if of opinion that the furnace has been so constructed and maintained as to consume or burn, so far as possible, all smoke arising therefrom, and that such furnace has been carefully attended to.

(XI). PENALTIES.

38. Every person committing or attempting to commit a breach of any regulation in this Table for which no special penalty is provided and the master of any vessel on which a breach of any such regulation has been committed shall be liable to a fine not exceeding two hundred dollars, or to imprisonment not exceeding six months.
