ORDINANCE No. 38 of 1932. (PRISONS).

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 17 of the Prisons Ordinance, 1932, the Governor in Council further amends the Prison Rules set forth on pages 181 to 246 of the Regulations of Hong Kong, 1844-1925, as set out hereunder.

Amendments.

1. The following words are added at the end of rule 252. "Whenever in the opinion of the Superintendent it is desir- able, either in the interests of a prisoner or in the interests of prison discipline, that a prisoner should perform his labour in a cell, the Superintendent may require him to do so; and in such case he shall perform such labour as can be suitably performed in a cell."

2. The following words are added at the end of rule 300. "A prisoner who is in separate confinement otherwise than under rule 279 and a prisoner who is at labour in a cell under rule 252 shall receive the diet prescribed for men and women without hard labour."

3. The following numbered paragraphs are added in rule 317 after paragraph (12) thereof:-

(13) exercising or attempting to exercise a pernicious influence over other prisoners;

(14) undermining or attempting to undermine good order and discipline in the prison;

4. The following lettered paragraph is added after paragraph (c) at the end of rule 317-

(d) separate confinement for any term not exceeding

3 months.
