International Voyage means a voyage from a port in one country to a port in another country, either of those countries being a country to which the Safety Convention applies: short international voyage means an inter- national voyage in the course of which a ship does not go more than two hundred miles from land, and international coasting voyage means an international voyage in the course of which a ship does not go more than twenty miles from land, so however that for the purpose of this provision-

(i) no account shall be taken of any deviation by a ship from her intended voyage due solely to stress of weather or any other circumstances which neither the master nor the owner nor the charterer (if any) of the ship could have pre- vented or forestalled-and---

(ii) every colony, overseas territory, protectorate or territory under suzerainty, and every territory in respect of which a mandate has been accepted on behalf of the League of Nations, shall be deemed to be a separate country.

Life raft means a life raft which complies with the requirements prescribed for life rafts by the Instructions.

"Motor boat' and Motor Lifeboat" mean the standard type of motor boat prescribed by the Instructions.

"New ship

in relation to ships of Classes 3 to 10 in Group I means a ship the keel of which was laid after the 1st January, 1933, or a ship which has not been certified to carry unberthed passengers in the trades to which these regulations apply during a period of two years prior to that date, all other ships of such Classes being described as existing ships.

"Passenger ship

OT passenger steamer means a ship or steamer, as the case may be, carrying more than twelve passengers.

Pilgrim ship means a ship conveying or about to convey, unberthed, to or from any port in the Red Sea Mohammedan pilgrims going to or returning from the Hedjas.

Pilgrim trade" means the conveyance of Moham- medan pilgrims to or from the countries of Ceylon, Hong Kong, India, the Netherlands East Indies and the Straits Settlements, from or to ports in the Red Sea.

"River Trade Limits means the waters in the vicinity of the Colony within the following boundaries, namely on the East, Meridian 114° 30′ East; on the South, Parallel 22° 9′ North; on the West, Meridian 113° 31′ East; and all inland waterways in the province of Kwong Tung and the province of Kwong Sai to which access can be obtained from the area defined above.

Safety Convention means the International Conven- tion for the Safety of Life at Sea signed at London on the 31st day of May, 1929.

"Search-light means a searchlight of the type and with the equipment required by the Instructions for search- lights carried on motor boats.

Wireless-installation means an installation which complies with the requirements of the Instructions for wireless installations on motor boats.
