GROUP II.

Ferry Vessels and Ships not exceeding 60 tons net register.

Class 1. Ships plying within the Harbour Limits.

Class 2. Ships plying within partially sheltered waters

(specified areas).

Class 3. Ships plying within the waters of the Colony. Class 4. Ships plying within River Trade Limits but not licensed for the carriage of passengers.

2. In these regulations,

Approved means approved by the Government Marine Surveyor as complying with the requirements of the Instructions.

"Board of Trade Rules means the Merchant Shipping (Life-Saving Appliances) Rules, 1932, or other rules for life-saving appliances from time to time in force made by the Board of Trade under section 427 of the Merchant Shipping Act, 1894, as amended by section 5 (1) of the Merchant Shipping (Safety and Load Line Conventions) Act, 1932.

"Buoyant Apparatus" means buoyant apparatus which complies with the requirements of the Instructions.

Country to which the Safety Convention applies

(i) a country the Government of which has been de- clared by an order of His Majesty in Council to have ratified or acceded to the Safety Convention, and has not been so declared to have denounced that Convention.

(ii) a country to which it has been so declared that the Safety Convention has been applied under the provisions of Article 62 thereof, not being a country to which it has been so declared that the Convention has ceased to apply under the provisions of that Article.

"Ferry vessel " means any steam or motor vessel which plies regularly for the conveyance of persons, or of persons and things, between two or more points within the Colony.

Harbour Limits means the limits of the harbour of Victoria as defined by section 39B. (7) of the Interpretation Ordinance, 1911.

"Instructions" in relation to any life-saving appliance means the instructions for the time being in force as to the survey of life-saving appliances issued by the Governor in Council under section 10 (6) of the Merchant Shipping Ordin- ance, 1899, as amended by the Merchant Shipping Amend ment Ordinance, 1935.
