ORDINANCE No. 38 of 1932. (PRISONS).

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 17 of the Prisons Ordinance, 1932, the Governor in Council further amends the Prison Rules as follows:-

Amendments.

(1) Rule No. 278, set forth on pages 230 and 231 of the Regulations of Hong Kong, 1844-1925, is rescinded and the following rule is substituted therefor :-

278. The following shall be the classes of labour and the descriptions of labour at which prisoners may

be employed in each class :—

No. 1.-Hard labour.

Such labour as the Governor may from time to time approve and the Medical Officer certifies the prisoner fit to perform.

No. 2. Light labour.

Such light labour as the Superintendent may, with the concurrence of the Medical Officer, direct.

(2) The second or last sub-paragraph of paragraph (1) of rule No. 283, which sub-paragraph commences with the words "For prisoners sentenced" and ends with the words "industrial labour class', is rescinded.

(3) Rules Nos. 281, 282 and 285 are rescinded.

(4) The word "industrial" in the third line of rule No. 288, on page 233, is deleted.
