No. S. 315.-It is hereby notified that tenders will be received at the Colonial Secretary's Office until noon of Saturday, 14th January, 1911, for supplying Flower Pots for the year 1911.

For form of tender apply at the Colonial Secretary's Office.

For specification and further particulars apply at this Office.

No tender will be considered unless the person tendering produces a receipt to the effect that he has deposited in the Colonial Treasury the sum of $25 as a pledge of the bona fides of his offer, which sum shall be forfeited to the Crown, if such person shall refuse to carry out his tender, should the tender be accepted.

The Government does not bind itself to accept the lowest or any tender.

NOTICES TO MARINERS.

I have received information from the Shanghai Tug and Lighter Company that two Mud Hopper Barges broke adrift from a tug in a North-Easterly Gale, one off Bashee Channel on 3rd December, the other in Latitude 18° 12′ N. Longitude 119° 20′ E. on 4th December. If still afloat, they form a danger to navigation.

The latter was sighted by the S.S. Kum Chow on the 5th instant, position not given.

SPECIAL NOTICE TO MARINERS, No. 345.

CHINA SEA.

UNIFIED SYSTEM OF PORT SIGNALS ESTABLISHED.

Notice is hereby given that on and after the 1st February 1911 the existing customary port signals, namely, call flags and special distinguishing signals, which differ in character at the several ports, will be replaced by a uniform code of port signals.

Under the new system:

(a.) Call flags will be identical at the several ports.

(b.) Vessels having special distinguishing numbers will, on arrival at certain ports, signal their numbers by means of pennants of the following design.*

These pennants should be 9 feet long, with a luff of 6 feet, and vertical division should be 3 feet from the luff.

The ports at which special distinguishing signals should, on arrival, be shown are :-

Newchwang, Taku (Outside Bar), Shanghai, Pagoda Anchorage, Amoy,

Swatow, and Canton.

The new Port Signal Code will be distributed to the several vessels having special distinguishing signals, and may also be obtained at the Coast Inspector's Office.

At Shanghai the Port Signal Code will come into operation on the 1st January 1911; vide Shanghai Harbour Notification No. 11 of 1910.
