c. The 4 fathom patch shown on Chart No. 1778, between these shoals is embraced by the 5 fathom contour line surrounding the northernmost of these two shoals. d. A small coral patch having on it a least depth of 3 fathoms is situated N. 89 E.

from the extremity of Cape Ambong, distant 1·13 miles.

e. An extensive Coral Shoal 4 cables in extent in a N.W. and S.E. direction and 2 cables in a N.E. and S.W. direction having on it a least depth of 3 fathoms which is situated N. 33 W. from the summit of Jaga Island, distant 8 cables. f. A coral patch with a least depth of 32 fathoms is situated S. 22 W. from Slime Rock, distant 10 cables. This Shoal is separated from Sunk Rock, but there is no safe passage between them.

. A coral head with a least depth of 3 feet is situated S. 11 W. from Slime Rock distant 14 cables. This Head rises from the Shoal spit which extends from Slime Rock 2 cables in a Southerly direction, 23 cables in a South-Westerly direction and 2 cables in a South-Easterly direction; which distances mark the 5 fathom contour line.

h. A small patch with a least depth of 4 fathoms and 9 fathoms around it is situated

S. 50 E. from Slime Rock, distant 8 cables.

i. A small coral patch, having on it a least depth of 3 fathoms is situated S. 32 E. from Slime Rock, distant 14 miles and marks the end of the foul ground off this point.

j. The 3 fathom contour line off Tanjah Point extends in a S. 65 Westerly direction

for 2 cables.

h. Remarks (Chart No. 1778) :-

Slime Rock is 14 feet above High Water.

Jaga Island is 150 feet above High Water. Talur Island is 234 feet above High Water.

Mount Robertson is 614 feet above High Water. Usukan Island is 470 feet above High Water.

The summit marked 1200 situated 4 cables in a S.S.-Westerly direction from Mount Robertson is 500 feet above High Water.

The summit marked 500 situated 6 cables in a N. 58 Easterly direction from Perunjuk Point is 360 feet above High Water.

The summit marked 920 situated i 12 cables in a N. 61 Easterly direction from Perunjuk Point is 588 feet above High Water.

The summit marked 1100 situated 165 cables in a N. 64 Easterly direction from Perun- juk Point is 596 feet above High Water.

The summit marked 980 situated 15 cables in a N. 77 Easterly direction from Perunjuk Point is 700 feet above High Water.

The summit marked 200 situated 4 cables in a S. 22 Easterly direction from Cape Ambong is 548 feet above High Water.

The summit shown 1 miles in a S. 25 Westerly direction from Cape Ambong is 357 feet above High Water.

The Cluster of Rocks shown 24 miles in a S. 47 Westerly direction from Cape Ambong is 10 feet above High Water.

Sunk Rock dries 5 feet at lowest tide.

The Rocks situated N. 1 E. 11⁄2 miles from the West extreme of Usukan Island (Chart. No. 2112) are awash at High Water.

The Government Settlement formerly situated in Ambong Bay has been moved to Usukan Bay where there is a lightly constructed pier situated at the head of the Bay along-

side which a small vessel can berth.

PART 2.

The following information has been derived from a Survey now in progress between Tuaran River and Sanpanmangio Point:-

Shoals.

a. The least depth on Mayne Rock is 9 feet-this Rock is situated 4 miles N. 28 W. from the Western extreme of Usukan Island and not in the position shewn on Chart No. 2112 where the depths are 18 fathoms even bottom.
