No. 718.--The following Particulars of the letting by tenders of certain Granite Quarries in the Island of Hongkong and Kowloon and New Territories are published.
Sealed tenders will be received at the Colonial Secretary's Office until Noon of 22nd November, 1909.
Tenders must be in a form which will be supplied by the Director of Public Works upon deposit of a sum of $50.
The Government does not bind itself to accept the highest or any tender.
Particulars and Conditions of the letting by tender, by order of His Excellency the Governor, of the following Lots of Crown Land in Hongkong, Kowloon and Tsing I Island, New Territories, for the purpose of Quarrying Granite, for a term of 3 years, commencing from the 1st Jannary, 1910.

CONDITIONS OF LETTING.
1. The Lots are delineated on plans deposited in the Crown Lands and Survey Office, Public Works Department.
2. Each Party, whose tender may be accepted in writing for all or any of the Lots, shall pay into the Colonial Treasury, within Seven Days of the date of such acceptance, a sum equivalent to six months' rent of such Lots or Lot and shall also, within the same period, deposit in the Colonial Treasury approved security equal in value to at least one year's rent for cach Lot, as a guarantee for the fulfilment of his tender. He shall then be entitled to and shail execute, on demand, a Lease or Leases from the Crown of the pieces of ground comprised in such Lot or Lots for 3 years, at the Rental or Rentals specified in his tender, payable half-yearly in advance on the 1st day of January and the 1st day of July in every year; such Lease being in the printed form marked Form A and deposited in the
Land Office.
3. The Government will permit if practicable each Lessee to erect and maintain such temporary piers and jetties as may in the opinion of the Director of Public Works, be rea- sonably necessary for the purpose of shipping stone cut in the leased quarries into junks or boats; the sites and dimensions of such temporary piers and jetties shall be subject in all respects to the approval of the Director of Public Works, who may at any time direct the removal of any such temporary pier or jetty to any other place; the expense of such removal to be borne by the Lessee.
4. The Lessee of each Quarry to fill in any holes in the Quarry to such levels and to the satisfaction of the Director of Public Works if called upon to do so.
5. The Lessee of each Quarry to construct such drains as may be necessary to carry off any surplus water which may accumulate in the Quarry, the work to be done to the satisfac- tion of the Director of Public Works.
