The following temporary modifications are to be noted:-
(1.) Steamers arriving from Ningpo bound for Whampoa need not anchor at the Tide Pole Quarantine Anchorage but may proceed to Whampoa. On their arrival there they will be boarded by the Customs Boarding Officer, who will demand a statement in writing from the Captain of the vessel concerned as to whether there were any deaths on board after leaving Ningpo and whether there are or were any cases of sickness. If the Captain's report is such as to arouse suspicion in the minds of the Customs Authorities at Whampoa, he is to be ordered to hoist the Quarantine Flag and to refrain from any communication with the shore until the arrival of the Canton Port Medical Officer who will be sent for at once by the Customs. If a vessel anchors at Whampoa and is not regarded as a suspect she must nevertheless be regularly inspected at Canton by the Port Officer if she subsequently proceeds there.
(2.) Rule 2 under Special Regulations A is to be altered to read that the Canton
Quarantine Anchorage shall be immediately below Macao Fort.
