Customs declaration and language: Two non-adhesive forms and despatch note. Hungarian, French or German as well as English. One non-adhesive form and despatch note if insured.

Prohibitions: Letters; artificial colouring matter and mineral waters; charged butane gas lighters and refills (uncharged lighters are admitted and should be declared as such on the Customs declaration forms); contraceptives; goods in sealed tins in gift parcels; wine essences.

Restrictions apply to the importation of: Alcohol; animal products; arms and ammunition; articles containing alcohol or nicotine; cocoa beans; foreign publication and films; hearing aids; medicine and veterinary medicines; mineral waters; narcotics; pessaries; plants and parts of plants; postage stamps; precious metals; saccharin; spices; wine.

Gift Parcels may be sent to private persons without import licences, providing they are for the personal use of the addressee or members of his family; customs duties are payable on most articles. The parcels may contain items only, and in quantities which may not exceed a specified amount annually. Gift parcels may also be sent without import licences to institutions, co-operatives, organisations, societies, etc. In these cases, there is no limit to the quantity of specified goods which may be sent.

Medicine may be included in gift parcels providing it is intact and in the manu- facturer's original packing. The addressee must prove that he is in need of the quantity sent. Goods in hermetically sealed containers may not be included. Parcels addressed to the Hungarian Red Cross intended for free distribution will be accepted free of customs duty. Detailed lists of the contents, preferably written in Hungarian, must be (1) attached to the customs declarations and despatch note and (2) enclosed with the parcel. Gift parcels which do not comply with Hungarian regulations are liable to be returned to the senders at their expense.

Commercial parcels may be subject to import restrictions, and senders are advised to ascertain from the addressee, before despatching a commercial parcel, whether an import licence is required. A detailed invoice should be enclosed in each parcel. Certificate of origin: Certificates of origin are required for many articles. Details may be obtained from the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce. Despatch papers : If an import licence is sent with a consignment of parcels, it should be enclosed in one of them, and all the parcels and relative despatch notes and customs declarations should show the Post Office serial number of the parcel containing the licence.
