Address: The despatch note of every parcel addressed to a bank or other agent of the person for whom it is intended should bear the full name and address of the ultimate consignee as well as the agent's name and address.

Import licences : A licence, to be obtained by the addressee in advance, is required for importation into Ceylon by post of most articles and senders are advised to confirm before posting a parcel that a licence, when it is necessary, has been obtained by the addressee.

Invoice: An invoice, in duplicate, is required for each commercial parcel, one copy to be marked For customs and audit purposes. Both copies should be enclosed in the parcel and the cover noted Invoice Enclosed.

If, however, the invoice relates to more than one parcel, the parcels should be numbered 1, 2, 3 and so on, the invoice enclosed in parcel No. 1, and the remaining parcels marked "Invoice Enclosed in Parcel No. 1”.

Preferential Tariffs apply under certain conditions to British goods. Enquiries should be addressed to Commerce and Industry Department.

Compensation is not payable for damage to fragile or perishable articles.

Delivery: Parcels with an insured value of more than Rs. 250 or a Trade Charge value of more than Rs. 25 are not delivered but must be collected from the Post Office by the addressees who are notified of their arrival.
