It is essential that the concluding portion of the address, namely, U.K. FAMILIES IN GERMANY, should be so written and that the three last words should not be abbreviated,

Parcels for wives and families of H.M. Forces in Germany, or for members of civilian organizations or for civilian personnel who are entitled to use military addresses, may not contain cigars, cigarettes, tobacco or tobacco products, coffee or coffee products, or tea or tea products.
MERCHANT NAVY ABROAD
GENERAL INFORMATION
Correspondence and parcels addressed to agents at a port overseas, or letters and postcards for a ship overseas sent c/o the shipping company's office in Hong Kong when the company agrees to the arrangement, are subject to the normal British Com- monwealth and Foreign post regulations as appropriate to the country of destination. See Section II of this Guide.
METHOD OF ADDRESS
As a general rule correspondence and parcels intended for delivery to a person on a merchant ship overseas should be addressed to the ship c/o the agents of the shipping company concerned at the appropriate port of call overseas. The address should include the name of the person being written to, his rank or rating (and discharge book number, if known) and the name of the ship, all in capital letters, c/o the agents at the appropriate port overseas.
Example: J. SMITH, FIREMAN,

S.S. (NAME OF SHIP),
c/o (Name of Owners or Owners' Agents),
(Number and Street),
(Name of Port),
(Country of destination).
Alternatively if the shipping company so instructs, but not otherwise, letters and postcards (whether prepaid for transmission by surface routes or by air mail) can be addressed to the seafarer c/o the shipping company's office in Hong Kong. The letter
