Spirits (except perfumed spirits). Packages each not exceeding 12 ounces gross weight will be delivered on payment of duty at a flat of 9s. 6d. each package. Sugar. Sugar and sugar confectionery in quantities and under conditions similar to those stated under Chicory above.

Tea. Packages each not exceeding 8 ounces gross weight will be delivered on payment of duty in accordance with the following scale:-

If the weight of the sample is under 3 ounces gross or 1 ounce net: free of duty. If the gross weight of the sample is 3 ounces or more but does not exceed 8 ounces: a flat rate of 2d. per package.

Textiles, including silk and artificial silk. These may be imported subject to the following conditions:-

The gross weight of each packet must not exceed 16 ounces.

Only one sample of the same range and colour may be sent to each addressee and each packet must be plainly marked c/o The Officer of Customs and Excise in addition to bearing the full name and address of the addressee.

Duty will be waived in the following cases:

Tissues (including ribbons) in lengths not over 1 yard irrespective of the width from selvedge to selvedge.

Piece-goods liable to ad valorem duty such as cords, gimps and so on, in lengths not over 1 yard.

Ribbons in lengths not over 24 yards provided they are snipped at intervals of not more than 9 inches.

Yarns, raw silk and waste silk not over 4 ounces.

Yarns, tissues, ribbons, braids, cords and trimmings, raw silk, silk waste or artificial silk waste exceeding the above limits but not over 16 ounces gross weight will be charged with the appropriate duty. Each packet must be plainly marked c/o The Officer of Customs and Excise and bear the full name and address of the addressee and particulars of the value, net weight and (for silk and artificial silk tissues) the square yardage. A Post Office fee of 6d. for clearance through the customs will be charged on each packet on which customs duty is levied.

Tobacco. Type samples of unmanufactured tobacco in packages each not exceeding 6 ounces gross weight will be delivered on payment of duty at a flat rate of £1 1s. 3d. each package.

Wine. Packages each not exceeding 12 ounces gross weight will be delivered free of duty.

Additional articles admitted by sample post. Packets containing the undermen- tioned dutiable articles are also admitted by sample post subject to compliance with the conditions shown in each instance:

Bees. Each packet containing live bees must be marked c/o The Officer of Customs and Excise and bear the full name and address of the addressee.

Printers' blocks. Each packet must be plainly marked Printers' Blocks and also c/o The Officer of Customs and Excise and bear the full name and address of the addressee.

Serum.

Serum (in glass ampoules) rendered harmless by the method of prepara- tion and packing. Each packet must be plainly marked c/o The Officer of Customs and Excise and bear the full name and address of the addressee. Customs duty at the appropriate rate will be charged. A Post Office fee of 6d, for clearance through the Customs will be charged on each packet on which customs duty is levied.

Observations: All acceptable merchandise not sent as an unsolicited gift will be admitted into Great Britain only under a licence which the importer must obtain from the Import Licensing Branch of the Board of Trade, Romney House, Tufton St., London, S.W.1, England.
