Observations: The importation into the United Kingdom of various kinds of merchandise is either entirely prohibited or permitted only under licence previously obtained by the importer from the Import Licensing Branch of the Board of Trade, Romney House, Tufton St., London, S.W.1, England. Although such licences are not required to accompany the articles at the time of mailing, it is suggested that exporters ascertain in advance that the importer has obtained the necessary licence or is able to obtain it provided it is required. This restriction does not apply to gift postings sent by a private sender to a private address, nor to trade samples. Prohibitions: Imitations of postage stamps; articles bearing imitations of British, foreign, or colonial postage stamps, out of circulation or not; cheque books must be sent exclusively by the letter post; arms, parts of arms, munitions, and similar articles; paint, varnish, turpentine, lacquer and similar articles having a flash point less than 150°F., except that such articles having a flash point between 90° and 150°F. are admitted by sample post provided not more than one quart is enclosed in a single packet sent by surface route or one pint if sent by air mail when packet in accordance with the regulations governing the transmission of liquids.
