Prohibitions: Arms, military materials.
Restrictions apply to the importation of plants, parts of plants and seeds. Import licences: Goods sent by post are subject to import regulations. Import licences, however, are not required for certain goods not exceeding DM 100 in value (about H.K.$136). Senders of parcels to Western Germany are advised to ascertain before posting that the correct procedure is being followed by the German importers.
Gift Parcels : The contents of gift parcels must be limited to essential relief items for the use of the addressee and his family. They must not contain saccharin.
Not more than 1 lb. coffee, 2 lb. cocoa and 2 lb. chocolate may be sent to one individual addressee per month, and the value thereof must not exceed two-thirds of the value, or the weight exceed more than one-half, of the total contents of the parcel. The contents of a gift parcel for Western Germany may not, in any case, consist solely of coffee, cocoa, or chocolate, either individually or collectively. Both the parcel and the customs declaration must be clearly marked Gift Parcel, Unsolicitor Gift.
Failure to adhere strictly to these regulations will result in the gift parcels being treated by the German customs authorities as ordinary commercial parcels. Packing: All parcels must be strongly packed.
Address: The relative Postal District (postleitgebiet) number, if known, should appear in the address of all parcels (and of other postal packets of any kind), preferably within a circle at the left-hand side of the name of the place of
destination. for example, (24a
is liable to lead to delay.
