RATES OF POSTAGE
SURFACE MAIL SERVICES
LETTERS
Hong Kong, China and Macau. The prepaid rate of postage for letters addressed to places in the Colony, China or Macau is 10 cents for each oz. or part of an oz.
British Commonwealth, British Post Offices in the Persian Gulf, The Republic of Ireland. The prepaid rate of postage is 20 cents for the first ounce and 15 cents for each additional ounce or part of an ounce.
Foreign, except China and Macau. The prepaid rate of postage is 40 cents for the first ounce and 25 cents for each additional ounce or part of an ounce.
WEIGHT AND SIZE
The limit of weight to all destinations is 4 lb.
The limits of size are:
Letters other than in the form of a roll
Maximum
British Commonwealth. 2 feet in length, 18 inches in width, 18 inches depth. All other countries. 3 feet in length, width and depth combined, but the greatest dimension must not exceed 2 feet.
Minimum
All destinations. 4 inches in length, 23 inches in width.
Letters in the form of a roll
Maximum
All destinations. The length and twice the diameter combined must not exceed 3 feet 3 inches, and the greatest dimension must not exceed 2 feet 8 inches.
The word Letter should be placed on the address side of letter packets, which, by reason of their size or make up, could be mistaken for other classes of packets.
An un-
Unpaid and underpaid letters-Letters for registration posted out of course. registered letter posted unpaid or underpaid is forwarded and charged on delivery with double the amount of the deficiency. An unregistered letter found to contain valuables of any description will be compulsorily registered, and a letter intended for registration. not handed in over the counter, will be surcharged as "Posted out of course".
Dutiable articles by letter post. Dutiable articles may be sent by letter post to certain countries under the "Green Label" system. A green label showing the precise particulars and the value of the articles must be affixed to the address side of each packet; and, in addition, if the country of destination so requires, one or more non-adhesive Customs declaration forms, as required for parcels, must be securely fastened to the package. Dutiable articles may be sent to this Colony under the green label system but no Customs declarations are necessary. These labels may be obtained at any post office.
Letters containing dutiable articles do not conform to these regulations, or letters despatched under the green label system to a country which does not admit the service, may be returned, subjected to fines or confiscation, according to the laws of the country of destination.
