A private box may not be rented in a fictitious name or for an improper purpose. The Postmaster General may refuse to let or re-let a box to any person without assigning any reason for such refusal.

The hours of access to private boxes may be varied at any time by the Postmaster General.

Correspondence for renters of boxes must show the number of the box as part of the address otherwise it will fall into the normal delivery. Delivery into a private box is in all respects equivalent to personal delivery to the addressee.

PRIVATE POST OFFICE BAGS

Each private bag must be provided by and at the cost of the person desiring the facility, and is subject to the approval of the Department. It may be used for delivery, posting or both purposes. The fee for a private bag service is $24.00 a year (1st January to 31st December) and is payable in advance; any portion of a calendar quarter is considered as a full quarter.

Articles intended for registration may be sent to the post office in a private bag and the relative receipts will be returned in the bag.

Registered articles and parcels are not delivered until receipts. therefor are signed, and such receipts addressed to the user of a bag service will be sent to him for signature; when duly signed and returned to the post office the registered articles or parcels will be enclosed in the bag.

Private bag holders will be allotted a P.O. Box number to which all correspondence should be addressed. This is merely done to facilitate sorting and it is not necessary for a private bag holder to rent a post office box.

LETTER POST

RE-DIRECTION

Letters, postcards, small packages, printed papers,

printed papers, commercial papers and samples may be redirected to the same addressee at another address by an officer of the Post Office, or by an agent of the addressee after delivery under the following conditions:

Redirection is free provided that the redirection is made not later than the day after delivery, not counting Sundays and Public Holidays.

This does not exempt from additional postage a postal packet which, though fully prepaid for the first transmission, is redirected to a country to which the postage is higher than that originally prepaid. Thus a letter or packet prepaid at the inland rate, sent from one place to another in the Colony, and afterwards redirected to a place abroad, should have additional stamps affixed to it representing the difference between the inland and the foreign rate of postage, other- wise the difference will be charged on delivery.
