SAMPLE PACKETS

Certain countries admit dutiable articles in sample packets under the regulations applicable to green label letters. Particulars of these countries including those which have fixed special limits of weight for certain articles are shown in the table commencing on page 58,

PRINTED PAPERS

Printed matter liable to customs duty is not debarred on that account from transmission by printed paper post, and except in certain cases, see page 14, no customs declaration is necessary.

SMALL PACKETS POST

Dutiable articles may be sent by small packet post; see page 9,

INSURED BOX POST

Dutiable articles may be sent in insured boxes; see page 48.

OUTGOING PARCELS

Most articles sent abroad are dutiable, but some countries make concessions in the case of gifts of small value, see table commencing on page 58. Exporters who require information as to rates of duty abroad should apply to the Department of Commerce and Industry, specifying the country concerned and the exact nature of the articles to be sent. The Post Office accepts no responsibility for loss, delay or charges arising from the customs or other regulations to which the contents of parcels are subject.

TREATMENT OF INCOMING LETTERS AND PARCELS CONTAINING DUTIABLE GOODS

Dutiable goods can be sent to the Colony in green label letters, small packets and insured boxes as well as by parcel post.

Duty on goods imported by post is calcutated in accordance with the customs tariff for the time being in force and any enquiry regarding the customs charges raised on a packet or parcel from abroad should be addressed to the Department of Commerce and Industry and should be accompanied by that portion of the cover which bears the address and customs declaration label.

METHOD OF ADDRESS

Delay to correspondence and mistakes in delivery are due in the main to the use of incorrect or incomplete postal addresses. It is therefore recommended that the full address should be typed or legibly written in the lower part of the front of the envelope, with a clear margin above (not less than 1 inches deep) for the postage stamps and postmarks, leaving the left-hand bottom corner blank; see the illustrations on page 24.
