REMITTANCE SERVICE

363

DUPLICATES AND ALTERATIONS

When a money order has been lost by either the remitter or the payee, a duplicate thereof will be issued by the paying office on payment of a second commission; and when a remitter desires to correct any error in an order obtained by him, such correction may be made on payment of a second commission. Application for either of the above purposes, should be made in writing to the Post Master General.

PERIOD OF VALIDITY

An order issued in Hong Kong and remaining unpaid after one year from the date of issue, e.g. issued in January but unpaid at the end of the following January, becomes legally void and lapsed to Government, and will not be paid unless a satis- factory explanation as to the cause of the delay in presenting it for payment can be furnished to the Postmaster General, who alone can authorise the payment. Repayment of such orders as have already been paid into the Treasury as void, may be authorised by the Governor under such conditions as he may see fit to impose.

A money order drawn on Hong Kong and re- maining unpaid after one year from the date of issue, six months only for orders issued in Malaya, will be considered void and returned to the office of issue.

ADVICE OF PAYMENT

In the money order service between Hong Kong and most of the countries of the Postal Union, a system for furnishing the remitters of money orders, on application at the time of issue, with "Advice of Payment" has been introduced. The Paying Office, as soon as the orders have been paid, will send the advices direct to the office of issue. The fee chargeable for such an advice for each order is twenty five cents in addition to the order commission.

PAYMENT THROUGH A BANK

A crossed order may be paid only through a bank. If the name of the bank is added, payment will be made only through that bank.
