PAYMENT

REMITTANCE SERVICE

Before an order can be paid, it must be properly receipted, and the payee must give the sender's name.

Payment cannot be made unless the signature on the order corresponds with the entry on the advice, and the sender's name is given correctly.

If the payee is unable to write, he or she must sign the receipt by making a mark, to be witnessed in writing by someone known to the Paying Officer, but not connected with the Post Office. The witness should sign his name with his address in the presence of the Paying Officer, and the latter will then certify the payment by adding his own initials.

In no case should the Paying Officer act as witness himself. It is not necessary that the witness should be personally acquainted with the payee.

After once paying a money order, by whomsoever presented, the Post Office is not liable to meet any further claim in connection with it.
