When a postal order has been paid, however, the Post Office is not liable if any further claim is made for payment.
COUNTERFOILS
A counterfoil is provided on every postal order so that the purchaser may keep a record of particulars of the order. The issuing officer will, if requested, impress it with the date-stamp of the office of issue at the time of purchase.
The counterfoil should be retained by the sender, and not forwarded with the order.
PAYMENT
If the sender has omitted to fill in the name of the payee this must be done by the person desiring payment, and the order must be properly receipted before presentation.
If any erasure or alteration is made, or if the order is cut, defaced or mutilated, payment may be refused.
PAYMENT THROUGH A BANK
A crossed order may be paid only through a bank; and if the name of a bank be added, payment will be made only through that bank.
REPAYMENT
A purchaser of a postal order may obtain repay- ment of the amount, but not of the poundage, on presenting the order and the counterfoil during the period of validity at the issuing office.
PERIOD OF VALIDITY
Postal orders are valid for a period of six months from the last day of the month of issue. After the expiration of that period the order should be sent to the Money Order Department General Post Office Hong Kong. If after the necessary inquiry, payment is authorised. a commission equal to the original poundage will be charged.
