REMITTANCE SERVICE

Remittance Service
The remittance service of the Post Office provides a safe, convenient and economical means of trans- mitting sums of money by post to most places abroad.
The service embraces two types of remittance: the postal order which is available in certain fixed values, and the money order. Money orders may be transmitted by telegraph to Great Britain only.
Money orders may be purchased and are payable only at the General Post Office, Hong Kong. Postal orders may be purchased and are payable only at the General Post Office, Hong Kong and the Central Post Office, Kowloon,
They may also be crossed for payment through
a bank.
It is recommended that Money Orders and Postal Orders should always be forwarded in registered covers. If this precaution is taken enquiries in cases of loss will be considerably facilitated. Should it appear that Money Orders or Postal orders are used by the public for the transmission of large sums of money, or if any other circumstances should give rise to an abuse of the facilities offered, the Postmaster General may increase the rates of commission or even suspend for a time the issue of all orders.
