Correspondence addressed to rural districts in which no post offices are established and to which the delivery service does not extend, is forwarded to the nearest Police Stations and is delivered by the Police on patrol as opportunity offers. Residents of such districts may, upon application to the Postmaster General, have their correspondence intercepted and delivered to addresses in town.
Letter Boxes.
To facilitate the delivery, and as a means to pre- vent the loss of correspondence, a letter-box should be affixed to the door of every house or office. Such letter- boxes should be provided with locks and keys kept by responsible persons. It is recommended that the size of the aperture of letter-boxes should be at least 8 inches by 1 inches.
Correspondence addressed to persons on board ships is delivered to the agents of the ships, and if there are no agents, such correspondence will be kept at the General Post Office, Hong Kong, to be claimed, in accordance with the rules of the Poste Restante.

Delivery hours and postmen's walks are so arrang- ed that all correspondence may be delivered expeditiously as possible. Any person who keeps a postman waiting to deliver a letter delays delivery of any correspondence which that postman may have for other people.
